Here we sometimes just callthem "Principal Investigator". More commonly we (mis-)use the title CHO

A rose by any other name........

Dear List(s) Members,

I am in need of your combined linguistic expertise...

On our campus, each department that has
at least one laboratory has designated a departmental Chemical Hygiene
Officer (CHO). I meet regularly with this group of 20 CHOs to discuss
issues and help educate each other on best safe practices. My director
is interested in expanding the scope of the CHO to include the other
safety related issues in laboratories, such as biosafety and other not
strictly 'health hazards from chemicals' as defined by OSHA. The truth
is that most of these people have functioned in the 'expanded CHO' role
for their departments anyway. With the proposed change in scope, we
are looking for a new designation.

Of course the first one I suggested,
Laboratory Safety Officer (LSO), was objected to by our Radiation
Safety Officer as the LSO designation in his world means Laser Safety
Officer...

So, I plead to your collective brains,
please help me brainstorm on names (and acronyms) for these hard
working people.

If you respond directly to me. I'll
compile the suggestions and post them to both lists with in a week.

Thanks!!!

-Russ
