I can sympathise with you.

In the early 1990's I was part of a team to relocate & redesign my
company's central laboratory. It was realized that floor drains would be
needed to be included with the safety showers. Once the project was
completed, we tested the showers only to discover that each drain was at
a high point in the floor surrounding the shower. The flooring
surrounding the showers is of a slip-resistant design.

Hopefully, they will never need to be used but at least it is easier to
deal with the water than with no drain at all.

Also, according to ANSI Z358.1-1998, American National Standard for
Emergency Eyewash and Shower Equipment, eyewashes and safety showers
need to be tested weekly. Hopefully your eyewash stations are not based
on 'personal eyewash station' where, if forced to use them, you must
choose which eye you wish to save.

I'm looking for input on safety regulations with regards to
laboratory showers.  We have several showers located in the hallways
around our clinical laboratories at the University of Wisconsin
Hospital and Clinics.  A State of Wisconsin survey team have sited us
for having these showers and not providing drains below the showers.
Their recommendation is to put in drains or remove the showers.  The
UW hospital safety officer in formed me they plan to remove the
showers - unless I can find a regulation that would argue in favor of
these safety devices. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
Seems like we make strides in the right direction and then can
quickly retreat!
