Carol, I haven't really partcipated in this discussion but I would like to add my voice to those saying a code to tell what the eyewear protects against would be enormously helpful. I implement the PPE programs here for 3,000 people, and thus cannot possibly counsel every person on every eyewear purchase. Most people are utterly confused by the OSHA eyewear selection chart or the ANSI standard. These publications may be simple enough to understand for those in the safety field and to manufacturers, but I can tell you that our hundreds of highschool-educated O&M & warehouse or labtech employees cannot make sense of these publications. On the other hand, if I could simply say to these employees, "it has to have "Z87.1" and a "C" code to protect against chemical splash" then I could confidently let them make their own decisions. Please DO take this recommendation to the committee, and let us know what they say. Thanks. -mmc Mary M. Cavanaugh, Industrial Hygiene Office POB 32140 (For UPS/Fedex use: 525 Rivers St, CAP Bldg. I happen to be on the Z87.1 committee, and we have a meeting in December. I am not a manufacturer, I represent consumers (users). You can bet I am going to bring this issue up at the meeting. If you like, I will report back to the list. Who do you think is on the Z87.1 committee? Some of them are the very manufacturers you want the committee to prevail upon! And this is something they don't want to do. It isn't that they haven't thought of it. They obviously know this would be easy for consumers and they are not interested in providing it. Read the list of committee members at the beginning of the standard. Monona Rossol - (been around a LONG TIME, and sit on many standard setting committees.
