The NIOSH booklet Histoplasmosis: Protecting Workers at Risk (Publication #2005-109) contains information on clean-up procedures and respiratory protection. It can be found on the NIOSH web site at http://www.cdc.gov/niosh/publistd.html or by calling 1-800-35-NIOSH. As far as how to get rid of the birds, I have heard all kinds of methods, all of which seem to have limited effectiveness. - Diane Amell, MNOSHA >>> "Regina Frasca"6/22/2005 1:29:08 PM >>> Colleagues, Can anyone contribute any information for my associate. Most of us enjoy the birds and bird activities, however, they make bird doo, sometimes in substantial quantities. Can anyone share information on: 1) Bird doo clean-up protocol for in-house staff 2) Control measures (humane, i.e. not fire hose removal) to prevent nesting of swifts and swallows (mud nests built with bird spit adhering to wall surfaces in corners in eaves etc.). I know about Histoplasmosis and Psittacosis - I don't need info on bird doo diseases - I am looking for practical specific information on control measures and clean up. thanks _________________________________________________ Bill Kupfer Director, Environmental Health & Safety / Risk Management California State University Channel Islands (805) 437-8847 FAX (805) 437 8491
