I agree but if you are going to require students to wear an air  
purifying
respirator then the OSHA's requirements for respirators will have to  
be met.
Not to mention the liability issues if the students share  
respirators, HIV,
Hepatitis, Meningitis and other communicable diseases if they are not
properly cleaned between uses. Making sure they are properly used  
would be
another hassle. I have been in labs where the students can not even keep
their safety glasses on, it seems they are more interesting in  
protecting
their hair than their eyes, when you walk into a lab and see the  
students
with their safety glasses on top of their heads. Money would be much  
better
spent on properly ventilating the laboratory.
