From: ginger.nakamoto**At_Symbol_Here**navy.mil Subject: RE: [DCHAS-L] Shingles Vaccine Date: May 21, 2008 2:51:29 PM EDT (CA) Not all shingles outbreaks are easily diagnosed. My mother came down with shingles in her ear canal. It was very painful, lasting over a month and was not diagnosed until she was finally sent to an Otolaryngologist. It also required scraping of her eardrum to prevent loss of hearing due to scar tissue formation. Can someone with shingles pass on chickenpox to someone who has not yet had the disease or received the vaccine? Many young children under the age at which the vaccine is given are cared for by grandparents.
