Headquartered in Houston, Texas, the company had $178 billion of assets as of December 31, 2007. Responsibilities The Safety Manager, U.S. Refining reports to the Manager, HS&E, U.S. Refining. The purpose of this position is to coordinate Safety, Occupational Health and Loss Prevention programs throughout U.S. Refining. U. S. Refining consists of the 12 U. S. based refineries, employs approximately 8,000 employees. The Safety Manager=92s responsibilities may include, but are not limited to the following: =B7 Lead the implementation of the S&OH elements of the HSE Management System within Refining =B7 Overall ownership of Safety, Occupational Health and Loss Prevention programs for refineries =B7 Interface with refinery management, S&OH staff and union representatives in the development of programs =B7 Coordinate professional and career development for staff through leadership of the Refining S&OH Network =B7 Utilizing HSEMS to monitor S&OH performance, identify areas of improvement and implement improvement strategies =B7 Maintain key performance indicators and report to senior management =B7 Coordinate the capturing of cost synergies and best practice development where appropriate =B7 Provide oversight for risk reduction programs and report progress to senior management =B7 Make recommendations for S&OH long range plan inclusions so as to address strategic improvements =B7 Lead the Refining S&OH and Contractor Safety Networks and sub- networks =B7 Interface with Corporate staff on programs, reviews and assessments, incident reports and injury statistics =B7 Participate in external trade organizations (NPRA, API) representing ConocoPhillips as necessary Basic/Required Legally authorized to work in the United States on a regular full- time basis without restrictions =B7 B.S. in Safety and Occupational Health or related discipline =B7 10 or more years of experience working in refining or petrochemical operations in an HS&E role Preferred Prior experience in an operations role in a refinery or manufacturing facility Prior supervisory position at refinery or manufacturing facility CSP certification Ability to work with refinery staff groups to lead effective network teams Strong communication and influencing skills
