Given that it is Friday afternoon, I'll share my starting fluid story as well. One summer during my college career (many years ago) I had a job at a stone quarry which employed quite a variety of interesting people (it was also fun because we got to "play" with dynamite, primacord, ammonium nitrate, etc.). The guy that routinely drove the 980 Cat payloader and loaded the dumptrucks was a rather grizzled, and weathered fellow (his name was Muggs), and although he was only in his late 40s, he had no teeth, nor did he wear dentures. Of course the 980 Cat had a diesel engine which occasionally required the benefit of starting fluid, so a can was always in the cab. I was told that a few years earlier when he still had a few rotting teeth, he had a particularly bad toothache one day. Although Muggs had only a rudimentary education, he did posses a certain level of, shall we say, "field expediency" (you may already see where this is heading). When the pain reached the point where it was unbearable he availed himself of the can of starter fluid, pulled back his cheek with his finger, and sprayed a healthy dose on to the offending tooth. Despite being well below medical grade, it was apparently efficacious. Muggs exclaimed, "Yah, it didn't taste very good, but that (expletive, expletive) tooth stopped hurtin' right now!" I'll end with one admonition and one observation. Although this treatment was effective for Muggs, I highly discourage anyone from attempting the same (not that I think you would). And whether or not it was a conscious decision on Muggs part, it's a good thing his normally, ever-present, (and hand-rolled) cigarette wasn't in the vicinity when he self-treated his toothache. Have a safe weekend! "Yarrow, Gary"
