OK, folks this one has been quiet until this past Wednesday.  The bill was introduced last year, but as of this week is a real hot topic.

Prior to this week – the focus has been on the whistleblower provisions.  Now the rhetoric is on worker safety, poten tial violations, the “reluctance of employers” to adopt safety procedures.

Despite federal efforts to communicate more stringent standard s on plant and refinery safety rules, it is "deeply troubling" that th e refining and petrochemical industries are not prompt in adopting and practi cing such safety standards, said Jordan Barab of the Occupational Safety and Hea lth Administration. "We need to pass the Protecting America's Workers Act, which would significantly increase OSHA's ability to protect workers, and specifically workers in refineries and chemical plants," Barab added.”

Given – the recent happenings (the CSB comment on the Gu lf Spill and pointed to BP Texas City, the three natural gas explosions, etc.) and audit initiatives – I anticipate that this will become more active.
