Never a good idea to modify a designed piece of safety equipment. Lots of times cabinets get modified and it ends up breeching the weld seal around the cabinet and that reduces the fire rating for the cabinet.

Subject: [DCHAS-L] flammable cabinet
question
Are self-closing doors required on flammable cabinets? (Specifically those under fume hoods)
If not, are there any restrictions on removing closers from flammable cabinet doors as long as the door latches?
