Position Summary:

A ssists and provides leadership in the development, implementation, and monitoring of University programs designed to the safe handling, storage, transport, and disposal of regulated and non-regulated hazardous chemical, bio-hazardous, and radioactive materials; assists in preparing for, participates in, and reviews responses to spills and releases of hazardous materials; assists in the management and review of University programs and policies which maintain licensure by and ensure compliance with state and federal hazardous materials regulations.

K nowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in chemistry, biochemistry, biology, hazardous waste management, environmental management, or chemical engineering; three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in handling and managing hazardous materials, including radioactive materials, biological materials, lab safety techniques, hazardous materials regulation and safety requirements; training as a Hazardous Waste Site Worker and in hazardous materials response; or an equivalent combination of education and experience; possession of a commercial operator's license (CDL) with hazardous material endorsements.

Desired Qualifications:

E xperience in industrial hygiene and radiation safety standards and regulations, emergency response, site-remediation; experience with Hazmat analysis; excellent interpersonal skills; demonstrated team player.  

Summary of Health Risks and Physical Demands (if applicable):

D uties associated with this position involve lifting, carrying, pushing/pulling, climbing, exposure to human biological specimens, driving a University vehicle which requires a commercial driver's license, wearing a respirator, working in noisy (above 85 decibels) areas, and working with formaldehyde.
