The flight of stairs were not identified but I believe the local Fire Department may not be pleased to hear that “emergency egress stairs” are being used to transport hazardous materials.  If this is the flight of stairs under consideration.

 

Cleaning staff in a lab can work under proper guidance, training and oversight (some labs will /may always be restricted) but your researchers are also part of the equation..  They must do the right things first so that the cleaners don’t make unintended mistakes.

Good Afternoon,

 

I would appreciate your wisdom on the following matters, as I’ve encountered different philosophies.

 

*1.  Is it acceptable to move chemicals (5-L bottles, barrels, etc.) up and down a flight of stairs if an elevator is not available?

*2.  What are recommendations for allowing cleaning personnel in labs to mop, empty trash, etc.?   Should it only be done by lab personnel who are trained in safety ?  Do you require training sessions for housekeeping staff?
