If I were to sum up all the memos, I think the message is to hire a competent AE firm with a highly competent Mechanical Engineering firm to manage the renovation project. You and your institution needs well-qualified professional input. This is not a project to be managed on the fly by individuals who lack the professional qualifications. I urge you to solicit input from your colleagues on qualified firms in your area or region and NOT solicit hit or miss input on what to do now from your chemistry colleagues. They are offering great input , however, you need professionals involved who will accept legal responsibility for doing the renovation right and aid in engaging qualified contractors. The question of qualified contractors has not come up. I mention that issue since I have seen many failures traceable to in-house personnel attempting to do complex renovation jobs with in hose personnel on "the cheap". Just because it is a renovation job does not mean it can be handled in house. I urge you to forward this memo to your President and other higher authorities. I suspect they do not realize the potential legal liabilities in asking you to guide and.potentially manage this project.

Do you have a hood in the room already?

We are in the planning stages for a remodel of an existing engineering lab into a chemistry undergraduate research laboratory. How should the room be outfitted in terms of chemical safety considerations?

=0A

=0A

We are thinking

=0A

-          ABC Fire extinguisher (do we need a D?)

=0A

-          Eyewash stations at each sink

=0A

-          Shower just outside the door (already in place)

=0A

-          First aid box on wall

=0A

-          Fire blanket

=0A

=0A

What are we missing?
