Very small transformers installed as components of manufactured electronic equipment can meet the regulatory criteria for a "manufacrured article." However, the high voltage transformers used in electric power transmission and distribution are not sealed articles and must be filled with a chemical coolant/corrosion inhibitor.

Usually these kinds of things are considered "articles" and require no MSDS or SDS.I would wonder about this for ballasts or transformers containing fluid, but the manufacturers probably consider these sealed items as articles as well.Monona Rossol, M.S., M.F.A., Industrial HygienistPresident: Arts, Crafts & Theater Safety, Inc.Safety Officer: Local USA829, IATSE181 Thompson St., #23New York, NY 10012 212-777-0062

Subject: [DCHAS-L] Query on (M)SDS and shipments
Dear DCHAS members, I would like to know if an (M)SDS is required on all shipments of electrical devices? The device itself contains various chemical constituents. The constituents can be placed on the (M)SDS, but we need to provide and (M)SDS with every shipment? I was looking at the OSHA/GHS regulations & statements but was unsuccessful. Any assistance/guidance would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance. -George D. McCallion *************************************** George D. McCallion 3250-B, St. Peters Rd.
