Flammability[edit]

An ethanol-water solution that contains 40% ABV (alcohol by volume) will catch fire if heated to about 26 =B0C (79 =B0F) and if an ignition source is applied to it. This is called its flash point.[80] The flash point of pure ethanol is 16.60 =B0C (61.88 =B0F), less than average room temperature.

The flash points of ethanol concentrations from 10% ABV to 96% ABV are shown below:[81]

=B7        10% — 49 =B0C (120 =B0F)

=B7        20% — 36 =B0C (97 =B0F)

=B7        30% — 29 =B0C (84 =B0F)

=B7        40% — 26 =B0C (79 =B0F)

=B7        50% — 24 =B0C (75 =B0F)

=B7        60% — 22 =B0C (72 =B0F)

=B7        70% — 21 =B0C (70 =B0F)

=B7        80% — 20 =B0C (68 =B0F)

=B7        90% — 17 =B0C (63 =B0F)

=B7        96% — 17 =B0C (63 =B0F)

Does anyone have flashpoint data on 20% ethanol in water they can share?

Thanks

Neal
