DCHAS members may be familiar with the ANSI Z358.1 standard for eyewashes and safety showers sponsored by ISEA. DCHAS has been invited to send representatives to the next ISEA meeting on this topic at the beginning of December to provide user input on the strengths and weaknesses of the standard. We will be partnering with CSHEMA to organize our stakeholder comments to the ISEA committee.
In order to help inform those comments, we invite DCHAS members to complete the survey at

to give us some basic demographic and testing protocol information as well as general comments on the standard. Due to the timing of the meeting, we would appreciate it if this survey can be completed by Friday November 18. Further information about the ISEA and the standard is below.

The survey below is designed to allow DCHAS members to provide input to the Division's representatives to this meeting about issues likely to arise in these discussions.
Information about the ISEA
The ISEA is the national trade association for safety and PPE and technologies that enable people to work in hazardous environments. As an accredited standard-developing organization, ISEA is the sponsor for the widely-recognized ANSI/ISEA Z358.1 standard on emergency eyewash and shower equipment. This globally-accepted standard is the authoritative document that specifies minimum equipment performance criteria for flow rates, temperature delivery and drenching patterns‰??all characteristics that are important for a user to receive adequate rinsing of a contaminant from the eyes, face and body in an emergency situation. The standard is often used by OSHA inspectors to ensure employers are in compliance with medical and first aid regulations (29 CFR Part 1910.151c). Equipment covered by the standard is found in manufacturing and processing facilities, construction sites, university and research laboratories, medical and healthcare offices, refineries and other workplaces.
As we begin the revision process of the Z358.1, ISEA believes it is important to hear from stakeholder groups who can share insights on the standard, describe any experiences they have with respect to requirements in the standard that complicate compliance from their unique perspective, assist in identifying trends on use and application of EWES equipment, and establish open dialogue that will lend itself to an improved document that reflects current needs of the end-user community.
