I will be updating my undergraduate Chemical Laboratory Safety (CHEM 210) course this summer and will be glad to share the results. It is a hybrid course developed for the Moodle course management system. If you don't have a Moodle server at your institution you can get inexpensive hosting at several places. I use MoodleCloud (moodle.com/cloud/) for my beta testing and have been very happy with it.


All chemistry and science education majors are required to take the course. As a result of such a diverse audience, it covers a bit more than a typical safety course. For example, there is a unit on the care of laboratory animals. In addition to a general update, the revision will attempt to bring the course into compliance with the Quality Matters rubric. If you don't mind the digital equivalent of watching sausage being made, I can give you a login to the beta site beginning in mid-May. I could use all the input I can get.

It would be absolutely wonderful if some entity could produce an online course with content and quizzes that could be purchased by others. I am looking for an online resource created specifically for undergraduate chemistry students that addresses topics in the ACS guideline. I realize many of these safety topics must be taught "hands on" and continuously, but it would be a good starting point.  If there is anything out there like this available for purchase, please let me know.

Are you aware of a safety certification training course for the college/university chemistry laboratory? A colleague of mine is researching it for the county college. I sent him to the ACS website, and there is a lot of information, but not a separate course. I know you have sent me links in the past for ACS webinars. Do you know of a laboratory safety training course that college students can take online and receive a certificate of completion? Flinn has them for MS and HS, but not college level.
