Hi Monique!
Most manufacturers of hoods want to assist customers with these problems. The hood mentioned here may even have the counterweight system under some sort of warranty.
With such failures, first step should be to contact the manufacturer.

Subject: [DCHAS-L] Fume Hood Sash Mechanism Inspections
Hello Everyone,
Has anyone experienced issues with sash mechanisms? I had one fail yesterday from what initially appears to be failure of the belt of the counterweight mechanism. These fume hoods are fairly new and I am wondering how often it is recommended
that these mechanisms be inspected. And, does anyone have a written recommended procedure for such inspections that they are willing to share?
Thank you,
Monique
