The Risk Management Department of the International Bio/Chem Threat Reduction Organization (IBCTR), has an exciting opportunity to support the implementation of chemical security systems approaches as part of our mission to eliminate threats from dangerous biological and chemical agents around the world. The ideal candidate will become part of a multidisciplinary team executing cooperative technical projects to meet the IBCTR initiatives for our sponsors. This includes identifying and integrating novel technical solutions in chemical security and safety to advance the department‰??s mission. This unique opportunity will require an understanding of sponsor and program requirements for engagement with global partners and how they translate to systems-based approaches for technical implementation including face-to-face and remote engagements.
As part of this work, the selected candidate will perform responsibilities including the following:
Supports the planning and execution of international and domestic projects focused on chemical security and chemical safety. Coordinates and communicates with internal team members and external collaborators and sponsors to advance project objectives. Prepares analyses, reports, proposals, and other project documentation as required. Uses engineering or other technical methods to recognize and formulate problems, and collect data through observation and measurement that support the planning,
development, integration, implementation, and testing of technical, engineering solutions for Sandia National Laboratories‰?? missions. Uses an understanding of science, engineering, and systems engineering and integration to create, analyze, or develop designs, concepts, materials, machines, products, processes, or systems. Uses engineering principles and systems modeling, simulation, analysis, and evaluation methods to integrate and implement solutions. Develops objective studies and performs integrated technical and risk analyses to advise project and program managers on current and potential problems and issues. Communicates the results of analyses and studies to decision makers, characterizing options and trade-offs.
Qualifications We Require
‰?¢ Undergraduate (Bachelor‰??s) degree in a field relevant to the work of the department (examples include chemistry, biochemistry, chemical engineering, computer science, and related disciplines) plus entry level work experience.
‰?¢ Demonstrated experience working productively and proactively, both independently and as part of various multi-disciplinary project teams, in a diverse and multidisciplinary team environment.
‰?¢ Willingness and ability to undertake periodic domestic and international business travel, including low to medium, and high risk countries, up to 30% of the year.
‰?¢ Strong verbal and written communication skills.
‰?¢ Proficiency using standard office software tools, such as Microsoft Office, database applications, Web applications include online communications platforms, and Sharepoint.
Qualifications We Desire
‰?¢ Master‰??s degree in a field related to the work of the department or equivalent experience.
‰?¢ An interdisciplinary technical background.
‰?¢ Technical knowledge and competencies appropriate to the position.
‰?¢ Demonstrated ability to team across disciplines.
‰?¢ Knowledge in chemical safety and security, and applying this information to improve the risk management field.
‰?¢ Knowledge in international security issues.
‰?¢ Experience and desire to affect global security issues from a technical perspective.
‰?¢ Foreign language skills are a plus.
‰?¢ Broad awareness of Sandia National Labs Non-Proliferation capabilities and goals.
‰?¢ Experience and knowledge to support or complete projects in an international setting.
