Besides the limitation on volume of flammable solvents stored outside a solvent cabinet, the number one concern is static discharge during moving, storing and transferring operations. All metal containers containing flammable solvents must be properly grounded both in the storage area, and also wherever they are placed when transferring the liquids into another container. The most dangerous operation is the transfer, whether done by pouring, or by pumping. Drum pumps are especially hazardous because of the generation of static electricity that occurs during the pumping stroke.
