I'm starting a project to identify and close gaps in my institution's lab safety training regime. I'm working on a three-tier structure:
1. University-standard training to cover the basics and really common issues.
2. Departmental training to cover discipline-specific issues and department-operated instruments, facilities, etc.
3. Lab-level training to cover the lab's emergency equipment/procedures, SOPs, lab-specific technologies, and anything else that isn't covered elsewhere.
I was wondering if anyone already has a set of policies that specify such a training scheme (that they feel are good, that is-) I'd love a pointer to the program description, and I'm particularly interested in how institutions communicate the responsibility to train down through the management structure.
Anyway, if you've an interesting and/or effective training program to share (or want to give a war story illustrating how not to do it), please contact me through the list or at
